DELAYED EXPANSION THEORY PUT TO THE TEST IN NEW ZEALAND
Founder and a Group of Industry Professionals Test Terminal Performance of Berger Match VLD Bullets.
Fullerton, California (March 27, 2007) — On a recent trip to New Zealand, Walt Berger and a group of hunters conducted terminal bullet performance tests on several animals including 4 red stags. Various calibers were used to take over 30 animals at an average distance of over 200 yards. The group wanted to test the “Delayed Expansion” performance of the Match VLD on game animals to see if they showed the same characteristics seen in the Bullet Test TUBE. Richard Mann, Test TUBE inventor, was present to assist in the collection of data. They used rifles ranging from the .257 Roberts to the 300 Win Mag.
For several years hunters have been using the Match VLD bullets and are reporting great results. Until now, no one had enough corroborative data to understand why they worked so well. Not only was the “Delayed Expansion” confirmed, the animals taken were put down decisively and humanely. The data was added to a growing list of evidence that continues to pour in from hunters everywhere.
Berger Bullets has always maintained consistency and accuracy as their highest priority. Combined with their unique terminal performance and the Berger VLD’s legendary accuracy and you have an extremely deadly hunting bullet. The VLD (Very Low Drag) design incorporates specific features that creates a bullet with a higher than normal BC. The primary design feature is a secant ogive. This sharp nose shape allows the VLD to shoot flatter and be less affected by wind. Berger also discovered the secant ogive gives VLD’s the ability to penetrate from 1 to 3 inches in animals before they start to expand. The delayed expansion allows VLD’s to open up deep inside vital organs creating a devastating wound cavity. This massive organ damage is too much for animals to handle most often resulting in fast, one shot kills.
Berger VLD bullets are available in 6mm, 25, 6.5mm, 7mm and 30 caliber. Berger VLD’s are also available in 22 caliber but the 22 caliber are not recommended for use on big game.
