A NEW Magnum .30 Caliber or THE Trusty 45-70?
A Hunter Has a Decision to Make
Princeton, West Virginia (August 24, 2007) – A hunter was recently asked by a friend to join him on an African safari. It was short notice, a cancellation deal, and the hunter was very excited about his “once in a lifetime” opportunity. The problem: The only gun in his cabinet was his old reliable .45-70. The friend said he should consider a magnum .30 caliber because it would pack more punch. Considering the attachment to his .45-70 and the fact he did not want to purchase a new rifle, the hunter decided to purchase a couple Bullet Test TUBEs and conduct a little research. He invited his friend to the range and below are the results of their informal ballistic study.

The hunter was impressed with his trusted .45-70 and his friend was a little surprised. The .45-70 penetrated as deep as the magnum .30 caliber and created a wound cavity nearly three times as large. With the results from The Bullet Test TUBE and information from the outfitter on animals and terrain, the hunter’s confidence in a rifle that has served him well for many years was reinforced.
